About the Fresh Market
The redevelopment of 603 Shorb Avenue NW transformed a long-vacant industrial building into one of Canton’s most impactful community assets. Once the former Marshall Maytag facility, the building now serves as a full-scale neighborhood fresh market and community pantry providing daily access to healthy food for families in Canton’s neighborhoods.
Through a comprehensive rehabilitation, Canton for All People repurposed the historic structure into a modern, welcoming food access and community distribution center. Today, the Shorb Neighborhood Fresh Market serves 300 to 500 households each day, offering fresh produce, staple groceries, and nutrition support to thousands of residents annually.
The project anchors a broader neighborhood revitalization strategy by addressing food insecurity, stabilizing a blighted property, and reinvesting in a key commercial corridor. In addition to food distribution, the facility supports community programming, volunteer engagement, and partnerships with regional food providers and health organizations.
The 603 Shorb Avenue project stands as a model of adaptive reuse and neighborhood-based development — transforming an underutilized building into a vital community resource that strengthens health, dignity, and long-term neighborhood stability.
